Positive Thinking Is The Key

I am quite a cynical and sarcastic person (I wouldn't say negative though) so it's gonna be tough haha.
These all help though...
Rights I am off to see An Education now at its final showing :D
I was going to see it on Saturday but it had sold out (I ended up seeing Valentines Day which is THE WORST FILM EVER... Sorry there is no way I can keep that awful film positive) so I am beyond excited. And prepared. I have my pre booked ticket in hand!
Hope you are all having a lovely Monday.
Keep positive like I am trying to ;)
Beth xoxo

Where fashion and music meet- Beyonce
Xanthe is wearing a black bandage dress form Topshop (but it really does look like a Herve Leger, no?)

MY WINTER

(You know ice like that can actually kill.)

(I wonder when I'll actually be able to see it?)

(Not much to add there.)
It's getting warmer now, for a while at least. Imagine all the fun I'll have when all of that snow starts to melt. Luckily I have my waterproof shoes to use when there's more snow than water on the ground...

MY KIND OF NINE TO FIVE.

You may think I haven't been too busy blogging lately.
That's because I've been busy doing others things.
This week, my nine to five. Although many jobs, I've never had a real nine to five one. (Except for six months of unpaid slavery at an ad agency, but that doesn't count since I had to do harbor work in the evening, thus it was a nine to twenty-two).
Well my nine to five looks like this: hot yoga at nine, a long lunch at twelve, the hair salon until five. (My friend recently quit her monthly wage-nine-to-five and started studying hair and make up, and gave me a nice ultra blond do just like I wanted). Today, it's pilates, sushi lunch and sock-pattern drawing for the factory.
I would've gone nine to five a longtime ago if I knew it was like this. Even though I'd prefer eleven. To four.
(I think I'll pul one of those tomorrow.)
(And no of course not all of my weeks are like this. I work like crazy. But I do get every third week off, paid, from the habrour.)

Current style obsession- Stud it up

In the past I would associate studs with either some punk rebel types or the classic female rock chick look as worn by Kate Moss and Taylor Momsen.
But now studs are everywhere; from the cat walks to the high street which means that they have predictably lost some of their original rock star connotations.
However I see this as a very good thing for me, a person so goody-too-shoes that the most rebellious thing I do is jay walk.
So because studs are absolutely everywhere at the moment it means that anyone can wear them and they don’t even require any rebellious rock star attitude to go with them like they used to.

The key is to keep the stud trend simple. Don't go for a head to toe studded look unless you want to look like a Johnny Rotten impersonator.
Instead stick to one key piece such as a sprinkling of studs on a pair of heels or a few encrusted on the bottom of a bag just like the gorgeous Alexander Wang 'Rocco' bag below. Another example is just a couple of weeks ago I bought a lovely black studded belt from H&M. Low-key but awesome nonetheless. And finally never wear these Louise Goldin for Topshop spiked heels on an aeroplane or they will without a doubt be taken off you at airport security. These are literally a pair of killer heels:

Winner of my favourite NYFW AW2010 collection goes to....
Everybody give her a big round of applause:

pps) After Anna Sui in 1st place I would have to put Alexander Wang in 2nd and Oscar De La Renta in 3rd :D
DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO CLICKING THE BUY BUTTON...

Minna Parikka's S/S 2010 can be wieved at her new site. I'm not going totally banans over the collection (or the ultra skinny model featuring it) but I wouldn't say no to this little overall for example, or to some of the cardigans in the collection (not to mention the Stocking Heels...)
Some of the knitwear from the past collection are on sale and I'm considering to get myself a salorish cardigan for more than half of the price it was. So far only considering, as it even at some 60% off is rather costy. But Sunday evenings, especially after a long day at work, has the dangerous ability of putting things slightly out of proportion (economically) - and perspective(economically) though, as well as listing things in a different line of importance... It usually end in the same way (which is: I buy).

Gloves that are worth risking frozen fingers

London Fashion Week Competition
I was delighted to be asked to take part in a competition by Helen at VoucherCodes.co.uk which involved playing dress up in some bargain buys or laying out your thrifty finds.
The prize? Front Row seats at London Fashion Week and a personal styling session among other things. Also up for grabs for 2nd and 3rd prize was some TopShop vouchers.
Naturally I agreed to take part (after some excited squealing.)
And so here is my best friend Xanthe May Harrison- who was kind enough to model for me- wearing: a TopShop dress bought in the sale, a vintage Wrangler denim jacket, my grandma’s jewellery and a belt from Primark.
(click to enlarge)In today's economic crisis it can be extremely hard to find good quality clothes for cheaper prices. But there are more options than just Primark. Here are some of my tips to finding some fabulous bargain buys:
1. Check out your local charity shops for unexpected finds.
My friend once found a pair of RayBan Wayfarers in Oxfam for just a fiver!
2. Find out more on vintage shops in your area and you may just pick up a surprise like my thrifted Wranglers denim jacket which Xanthe is modelling.
3. Don't forget about the sales! From high street shops like TopShop and H&M to designer boutiques such as Net A Porter and Start there are always food discounts to be found.
4. Even though you might not expect it supermarkets such as ASDA and Tescos do have some great finds which means that you can still have a slice of the latest trend but at a fraction of the price. Plus I can guarantee people will have no idea that it is just from your local supermarket.
amore-fashion@hotmail.co.uk and I will send you the details.
A 40 MIN LESSON IN FINNISH - AND BURLESQUE

I talk about the contrast between burlesque and the harbour, among other stuff ( I babble on a lot, jeez!), in a documentary about the Finnish burlesque scene. It was shot over a year ago, but aired on TV4 this week. You can catch us backstage as well as members of Helsinki Burlesque / Hula Pirates crafting together, reflecting over burlesque in all its forms, as well as clips from acts in Helsinki and NY. (It's all in Finnish though so why not take it as a lesson in Finnish as well :)
View it here:
I'm not one hundred percent about weather it can be viewed from abroad so you might have to try it trough a proxy then.
